Yes, the call was ridiculous. As anyone in basketball will tell you, the farther away from the goal you are, the lower your shooting percentage will be. So, it stands to reason that the further away from the goal you are, the less chance you have to score. You can say Vince Young would have scored on that defense from anywhere on the field all you want, but the plain and simple fact is that Pete Carrol should have played the percentages and kicked the ball, giving Texas at least a 90 yard march instead of 50 to go.
1 yard and the game is over, shouldnt be to hard for a team that is back to back national champions, with arguably the best offense in the history of college football. Right Call, Right spot. If it would have worked people would be saying that was the greatest call ever by keeping texas on the sideline.
Mikmo, I think Pete feared that they would have scored no matter what so he was trying to play keep away. I understand it was questionable but USC's defense was swiss cheese that night.
